Planning your Television campaign

01

Formats and campaign fit

Compare spot advertising, programme sponsorship and other broadcaster-approved opportunities. Assess channel and programme context as well as the schedule. A channel’s overall audience does not mean every programme or placement reaches the same viewers.

02

What affects the cost?

Channel, programme or time band, commercial duration, number of spots and package rules affect airtime cost. Production, adaptations, talent, music rights and technical delivery can be substantial separate items. Confirm which costs belong to media and which belong to making the advert.

03

Lead times and booking deadlines

Allow the schedule to account for production, client approval, technical checks and broadcaster deadlines. Sponsorship arrangements can require additional approvals. Confirm material delivery dates and any late-delivery consequences before accepting the booking.

04

Production and approvals

Obtain the broadcaster’s current technical specification before producing final masters. Check duration, aspect ratio, sound, captions where needed, clearances and the geographic and time limits on talent or music rights. Keep an approved final version for delivery.

05

Measurement and proof of delivery

Compare transmission evidence with the purchased schedule. Audience estimates should identify the measurement source, period and relevant programme or time band. Estimated reach and frequency help evaluate the plan but do not guarantee attention, enquiries or sales.

Television advertising questions

Is television production included in airtime?

Do not assume so. The proposal must identify production and adaptation as included, separately priced or excluded.

Can I book a specific programme?

You can request a programme or context, but availability, scheduling and sponsorship restrictions require broadcaster confirmation.

Can I reuse an existing video?

Possibly, if its technical format and duration are suitable and its music, talent and other rights cover the intended television use.

Could Television help move your campaign forward?

Let us assess the role it could play alongside the rest of the media mix.
